You are on the right track with wordpress. I found wordpress three months ago and it started my turnaround in my online campaigns. I do not use any wordpress site I have to collect emails or opt in lists (many marketers feel you must have a list to be successful. I personally think a list is shady and opens up too many trap doors).
Anyway, honestly, I have made a little over $2200 the past three months using wordpress blog sites. This was after losing $3K on adwords (ugh).
